Our mission is to halt the crisis of hate, fear, death and confusion and make a lasting impact on our young people.

Daily, the media highlight the plight of the young, particularly those in our black communities around the UK. In particular we hear more and more frequently about the tragic and needless loss of life through gun crime and knifings.

It remains unclear which the triggers feature in each incident - turf wars, gang culture, drug dealing, the prevalence of guns and knives or a breakdown in family and community lives and values. However, at SAYLE, we firmly believe that it is possible for change to take place which will halt this crisis on our streets and in our communities. Inaction must be replaced with positive action so that our young people can move on and develop in greater safety.

SAYLE ROOTS

SAYLE, 'Save a Young Life Everyday', has sprung from the heart of the Midlands’ black community. Bobby Woods, a locally well-known singer and songwriter who conceived of SAYLE, has been watching these developments over the years and seen a crisis of confidence and inaction plaguing families and their communities. Tragically, in July of 2006, he lost his nephew as a result of a fatal knifing attack in London. This personal experience plus an outlook to reach others who are in similar situations underpin Bobby’s drive for SAYLE’s success.

Bobby has already written two songs for SAYLE, and has performed them with the group 'Tribal Force'. Bobby's music, through Tribal Force, will help promote SAYLE and all that we stand for, will help to reach the young people in our community, and also raise money for our cause through record sales.

SAYLE Aims

We aim to work on both a national / regional level and a community level. On a national level we will focus on awareness raising, encouraging participation and support by bringing other organisations under this one banner thereby bringing greater influence to shape government policies and programmes. We also will develop structures to encourage positive action and empower young people in conjunction with schools, churches and other institutions. The core aim of this community level work will be to create a ground swell of action within the community and then to hand over long term development and evolution of these community projects to the communities themselves.
